Violin Explorers (K-1st grade)- $40
Mondays 7:40-8:40 9/26-11/14
This class is for students who are on the waiting list for the violin program. Students will not have an instrument checked out to them, but they will get a chance to try the violin! We will do activities such as listening to violin music, singing songs, learning about the parts of the violin, violin artwork, and building our very own “box” violins.

Art Club (3rd-5th grades) $35

Art club will be an 8-week program focusing creating collaborative and individual artworks. We will dive deeper into many art processes that students are introduced to in their weekly art class. Students will be introduced to new artists, new materials, and a newfound freedom in the art room. Come and create with your art teacher, Ms. Tenpenny, and fellow Laurel Artists!
Creative Writing (Kinder): The Imagination Machine-$45

In this class, students will explore language and creative expression in a variety of fun and engaging activities, including storytelling, creative movement, and collaboration. With an emphasis on noticing and using descriptive language and imagery, students will read, write, make, and move in a supportive environment. This class is taught by Chloé Leisure (MFA), who is a poet, community creative writing teacher, and was the 2014-15 Fort Collins Poet Laureate.

In this eight-week class, students will activate their imaginations through a variety of activities centered on the exploration and appreciation of language and creative expression. In this eight-week class, students will explore their imaginations and interests while writing poetry and fiction. In this supportive, fun, and creative environment, students will work to enrich their writing with specific and sensory details. Students will participate and collaborate in activities that promote expansion of perspective, visionary thinking, and individual expression. Chess Club (K-5th grade) $45
Thursdays 7:40-8:40 9/8-12/8 (no club on 10/13 & 11/24 because school is not in session)
Chess club is a 12-week program (it has already started, but it isn’t too late to join!) focusing on learning chess strategies and being part of a team. Chess club will be taught by Chessmates instructor Josh Altic, teacher of many Fort Collins schools and who is ready to teach you all the tricks and traps of chess strategy you could ever want or need. Kids’ Yoga (K-5th grade)-$59

Kids’ yoga will be a six-week yoga program including yoga games, poses, stories, songs, and more. Classes are designed for students of all ability levels and focus on breathing, body awareness, strength, stretching, relaxation, and FUN. Movement and mindfulness in a non-competitive, fun atmosphere is what this class is all about! Kids’ yoga club will be taught by Robin Hughes RYT-200, yoga teacher for kids, adults, and families, and owner of Family Balance Yoga LLC. Claim your child’s spot in class today!
Laurel Lynx Choir (3rd-5th grade)-$25

Laurel Lynx Choir is getting ready to begin for the year! And we need singers! Choir members are expected to participate in both the fall and spring sessions. Our fall concert will be Saturday, December 10 at the Barnes & Noble fundraiser (time TBA).
Fourth and fifth graders must be in the choir fall and spring to be eligible to audition for the PSD Honor Choir.
BStrong BFit -Girls Running and Self-Esteem Program (4th-5th grade girls)-Free
Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:40 – 5:15 pm
This program is limited to 20 girls. We will have a lottery and a waiting list if needed. This club begins on 9/20 and your student will be notified on 9/19 if they are accepted or on a waiting list.
BstrongBfit is an eight-week, bi-weekly, evidence-based program offered by Healthy Kids Club for girls in 4th and 5th grades. This program emphasizes positive self-esteem and physical activity through standards-based lessons, and training to run a 5K. Ms. Schroepfer, Ms. Kirby, Mrs. Anderson, and Ms. Thomsen will facilitate the program.

Fiddle Club (1st-5th)-$40
Tuesdays 3:40-5:00
Students will explore traditional fiddle music through playing and listening. This club features professional fiddlers visiting as guest performers/teachers! Students will learn the differences between backup, lead playing, and twin fiddle, and will learn a new tune or two. Come share in the lineage of traditional music in a fun learning environment. Taught by Ms. Demi-Smith and special guests. Pre-requisite: Students must currently be enrolled in the Laurel Strings Program on violin and must be able to play a minimum of 3 songs including Little Liza Jane.

Get ready to rock with Modern Band! Students will learn to play guitar (acoustic & electric), bass, keyboard, vocals, and drum set! Taught by Mrs. Kelly and Mrs. Frasier.
Odyssey of the Mind (OM)-(K-5th)

OM is groups of up to 7 students creating an 8-minute solution to one of 5 problems and having 2 tournaments in March 2017. Club de ajedrez es un programa de 12 semanas (ya ha comenzado, pero no es demasiado tarde para unirse a) centrándose en el aprendizaje de estrategias de ajedrez y ser parte de un equipo. Club de ajedrez será impartido por el instructor de Chessmates Josh Altic, maestro de muchas escuelas de Fort Collins y que está dispuesto a enseñarle todos los trucos y trampas de estrategia de ajedrez podría siempre quieren o necesitan. ¡Coro de lince de laurel se prepara comenzar el año! Y necesitamos cantantes! Miembros del coro se esperan que participen en las sesiones el otoño y la primavera. Nuestro concierto de otoño será el sábado, 10 de diciembre en la librería Barnes & Noble para recaudar fondos (tiempo TBA).
Cuarto y quinto grado debe ser en la coro otoño y primavera para poder optar a una audición para el coro de Honor del PSD.
BStrong BFit-Chicas Corriendo y Programa de Autoestima (4--5 grado para niñas)-Gratis
El martes y el jueves 3:40 – 17:15
Este programa está limitado a 20 chicas. Tenemos una lotería y una lista de espera si es necesario.
BstrongBfit es un programa de ocho semanas, dos veces por semana, basada en la evidencia ofrecido por Club saludable para niños para niñas de 4 y 5 grado. Este programa enfatiza la autoestima positiva y la actividad física a través de lecciones basados en estándares y entrenamiento correr un 5K. La Sra. Schroepfer, Sra. Kirby, Sra. Anderson y Sra. Thomsen facilitará el programa.

Los estudiantes explorarán música violín tradicional a través de tocar y escuchar. Este club dispone de violinistas profesionales visitando como artistas/profesores invitados. Estudiantes aprenderán las diferencias entre copia de seguridad, plomo jugando y violín gemelo y aprenderán una nueva melodía o dos. Ven a compartir en el linaje de la música tradicional en un divertido ambiente de aprendizaje. Impartido por la Sra. Demi-Smith e invitados especiales. Requisito previo: estudiantes actualmente debe estar inscrito en el programa de cuerdas de Laurel en violín y deben ser capaces de jugar un mínimo de 3 canciones incluyendo Little Liza Jane.
