Bike & Walk to School

The Laurel Bike & Walk to School Program for 2012-13 will once again be in full force to encourage Laurel students and families to use active transportation to get to and from school. This year the program will include the following initiatives:

  • Celebrating International Walk to School Day on October 3, Winter Bike to Work/School Day on December 12, and National Bike to School Day in May.
  • Bike Safety Education - at the Wellness Fair in September, After-school Bike Club in the Spring, and an Open House in the Spring.
  • Frequent Biker/Walker Program (punch cards) - Students set a goal for the year and get a punch for each day biked or walked to school.
  • Bike Lotteries
  • Bike Trains & Walking School Bus - This year we are developing a chaperoned "walking school bus" from the Buffalo Run Apartments behind Walmart on Lemay. We will also organize periodic bike trains from various neighborhoods throughout the year.

If you have any ideas, questions or concerns, or would like to volunteer with the activities above, please contact parent champion, Bevin Campbell at 482-3080 or bevinbcampbell@gmail.com
