Journey in Government

Journey in Government meets twice a month from October to May for 1.5 hours per session. Additional evening sessions with parents are scheduled as needed to support field trip experiences. Research sessions provide students with basic information about government at the city, state, and federal levels. Guest speakers, including local representatives, state government officials, and federal representatives give students opportunities to interact and ask questions from the research sessions about how the government works, and field trips provide students with real life opportunities to watch government in action.

Our culminating activity is a field trip to Washington, D.C. arranged through WorldStrides school tours. While the cost is an incredible value, and something many PSD parents could budget for over the course of the year, for many Laurel families there is not the expendable income for an experience of this type. We diligently raise funds and write grants to make this trip a possibility for all our interested students.

This educational opportunity is available every other year.
