Laurel School: Rooted in the Past, Reaching for the Future Online Book

Founded in 1906, Laurel is the oldest, continuously operating elementary school in Fort Collins. Our school, located in Old Town, has one of the most diverse student populations in the Poudre School District (PSD). Laurel offers PSD’s standards-driven curriculum, in an arts-infused environment that is rare for public schools anywhere in the country.

The current Laurel building opened in 1993 and retains the name of the original school building on Laurel Street. At Laurel, we embrace diversity with a wide range of economic levels, cultures, interests, and abilities!

Laurel School: Rooted in the Past, Reaching for the Future...online
The story of our history, Laurel School: Rooted in the Past, Reaching for the Future is here! We will let you know soon how to access your own personal copy, one per family. Previous and present staff are eligible. So are alumni! We will have an official book release celebration this spring which each family that desires one may have one.

The best part is they are free! Thanks to the PSD Foundation, your PTO, and a good number of Laurel fans who contributed through GoFundMe, we were able to print a good number of copies.

Laurel's history started in 1906 at the original building on Laurel Street (now known as Centennial HS) and morphed into two different structures on Locust St. However, it was always one entity with the same student body and principal moving from one place to the next. We have faced many challenges over the years, yet here we are at 115 years old! Read the story!

One of the really cool things about the online connection is that we will be adding supplementary material that truly rounds out the story of the oldest elementary school in Fort Collins. Stay tuned!
