Laurel offers differentiated instruction in the regular classroom setting for all students, including those identified as Gifted and Talented. Those students identified through the Poudre School District criteria will be provided with a program that is responsive to student needs and interests.
Identification is based on the Poudre School District criteria, which centers on forming a "Body of Evidence" for students being considered for services in Gifted and Talented. Laurel's program offerings focus on the student's needs in the following ways:
- Small Groups: Small group pullout sessions with high level instruction happen daily for both GT and high achieving students in content areas of reading and math.
- Differentiation: Teachers differentiate daily lessons and activities within the classroom to meet student needs.
- Passion Projects: High achieving fifth grade students have the opportunity to pursue their own interests and develop a passion project over the course of the school year. Their project will be presented in the spring.
